Grills

The easiest grill for a tailgate is a tabletop propane grill: it sets up on a dropped tailgate or a folding table in minutes, runs off a standard 20 lb tank, and works at lots that ban charcoal, like Ohio State's. Both of ours are Monument two-burner stainless grills: 15,000 BTU over 200 square inches, about 10 burgers at a time, per Monument. The G22 adds a window in the lid; the 13742 costs $30 less.

Propane or charcoal at a tailgate?

Propane, if you're not sure. Some lots ban charcoal outright, and the ones that allow it want hot coals dumped in a bin, never on the ground. Check your stadium in our stadium guides.

Can a tabletop grill run on 1 lb propane bottles?

Yes, with Monument's 1 lb tank adapter, sold separately. Out of the box, both grills come with a hose for a standard 20 lb tank.
