Barbecue smoke drifts over a sea of orange in the lots outside the Dome. One tailgater told WSYR in 2025 the crew had held "the same freaking space" for 45 years, and another fan had driven up from Long Island and stuck it out through the campus construction and traffic. The Quad's Family Fun Zone opens three hours before kickoff with music and games, and former Orange players turn up for the pregame. After a win, the band and fans head to Varsity Pizza, which hangs the losing team's pennant upside down.

The lot answer

Syracuse tailgates outside the Dome, in the lots on Main and South Campus. Single-game parking is Skytop on South Campus, at 1600 Jamesville Ave, with a shuttle to College Place running before and after the game, and the University Ave Garage near Main Campus. The Dome West lots are season passes only, and the Quad fills with food trucks, live music and the band before kickoff.

  1. Inside the Dome It's the biggest domed stadium on a college campus, and it's loud in a way open-air stadiums can't be. Third down on defense is when you'll hear it.

Quick answers

What time do the Syracuse lots open?

4 hours before kickoff for Saturday games and 2.5 hours before kickoff for Friday games. 'Cuse on the Quad opens 3 hours before kickoff, and the Dome's gates open 2 hours before.

Can you grill at Syracuse tailgates?

Not in a garage. Syracuse bans open flame from propane, charcoal or anything else on every level of its parking garages, and says it's strictly enforced. The policy doesn't post a grill rule for surface lots like Skytop, so check the signs in your lot.

Syracuse prohibits excessive drinking on university property, and anyone judged impaired can be turned away at the Dome. Smoking and tobacco are banned on all university property, lots and garages included.

Do you need a ticket to tailgate at Syracuse?

How do you buy parking at Syracuse?

Skytop on South Campus is the single-game lot. Buy it ahead through the links on cuse.com or on game day, and the shuttle to College Place is included. Parking is cashless, and the University Avenue Garage also sells game-day spaces. Main-campus lots next to the Dome are season passes.

I-81 construction has permanently closed some roads around the Dome. Syracuse asks fans to use Waze and follow the directions for their lot.
No season pass? Skip I-81 Exit 18 and use Exit 17 (Brighton Ave) or I-481 for Skytop.
No car? Rideshare zones are at Newhouse Circle, at Waverly Ave and South Crouse Ave, and near Bird Library on Waverly. After the game, leave through Gate N to reach them.

Where the party is

The Dome has a roof and no tailgate of its own, so game day spreads out: tailgates in the lots on Main and South Campus, and food trucks, live music and the band on the Quad from 3 hours before kickoff.

The day-of lot

Skytop

The single-game lot on South Campus, and the RV and bus lot. Tailgate in your space, then take the shuttle to College Place.

The front porch

'Cuse on the Quad

Opens 3 hours before kickoff with food trucks, lawn games and a big videoboard. The team walks past Hendricks Chapel about 2 hours 20 minutes out.

The school's own pregame

Drumlins

Syracuse's Drumlins Country Club runs a pregame 3 hours before kickoff with free parking. Buy a shuttle ticket to the Quad at least 24 hours ahead.

What to eat

The food trucks on the Quad change every game, and Syracuse posts that week's list on cuse.com/Quad. In a surface lot, check the signs before you light a grill, and leave it off in a garage.

Getting out

There's one shuttle line and a lot of fans in it. Your options, best first:

  1. Ride the Skytop shuttle back. Buses pick up at College Place after the game and run continuously back to South Campus.
  2. Rideshare from the zones. Exit through Gate N and walk to Newhouse Circle, Waverly and South Crouse, or Bird Library.
  3. Take your time in the garage. The University Avenue Garage stays open until 2.5 hours after the game.
  4. Skip this

Trust your old route around I-81. The construction closed some roads for good. Use Waze and the route for your lot.

First time here?

  • Saturday lots open 4 hours before kickoff, Friday lots 2.5 hours before.
  • No season pass? Park at Skytop and ride the shuttle.
  • Tailgate in your own space, behind or in front of the car.
  • No grill in a garage, on any level.
  • Be on the Quad about 2 hours 20 minutes out for the team's Quad Walk.
  • Clear bag only, and no re-entry once you're in the Dome.

Visiting? How to join a tailgate

Start at Skytop, where single-game parkers from both sides set up, then head to the Quad for the band and the Quad Walk. Bring something to share and wait for a wave before you join a tailgate.
