Tailgating rules change from stadium to stadium. At 32 of the 166 stadiums we cover, tailgating ends at kickoff. Denver ends it 60 minutes before kickoff, and Atlanta, Baltimore and Philadelphia give you 30 to 45 minutes after. Thirty-one stadiums ban charcoal outright. Nashville's Nissan Stadium and Alabama allow charcoal only, and the Grove at Ole Miss bans grills entirely. Seattle has no tailgating on stadium property at all.
Below are the rules at all 166 stadiums: when the lots open, when tailgating ends, what you can grill on, whether glass is allowed, and whether you can save a spot. Every rule comes from that stadium's own pages, and each stadium links to its full guide, with the lot map and the date it was last checked. "Not posted" means we couldn't find the rule on the stadium's or team's own pages, not that anything goes.
The rules that catch people
- The earliest cutoff: Empower Field at Mile High. Every tailgate in Denver has to wrap 60 minutes before kickoff, with tents, tables and chairs broken down.
- Ends at kickoff: 32 stadiums, including Arrowhead, Lambeau, Highmark, SoFi, Notre Dame Stadium, the LA Memorial Coliseum and Allegiant Stadium. Find yours in the tables below.
- A little grace: 30 minutes after kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and M&T Bank Stadium, and 45 minutes at Lincoln Financial Field.
- No charcoal: 31 stadiums, including State Farm Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, SoFi Stadium, Ohio Stadium, Beaver Stadium, Snapdragon Stadium and Canvas Stadium. At the Grove at Ole Miss, no grill of any kind is allowed.
- No propane: Nissan Stadium and Alabama are charcoal only. Georgia allows propane only on disposable canisters of 17 oz or less, and Kent State bans propane tanks in its stadium lots.
- No saving spots: 58 stadiums say so outright. Roll in together instead.

Which NFL stadium has the earliest tailgating cutoff?
Empower Field at Mile High in Denver. The Broncos' tailgating rules say all tailgate parties must end 60 minutes before kickoff, with tents, tables and chairs broken down before you go in.
Which stadiums let you keep tailgating after kickoff?
Of the stadiums we cover, Mercedes-Benz Stadium and M&T Bank Stadium allow 30 minutes after kickoff, and Lincoln Financial Field allows 45. Many college campuses run longer: tailgating at the Grove ends 3 hours after the game or at midnight, whichever comes first.
Which stadiums ban charcoal grills?
Thirty-one of the stadiums we cover ban charcoal, including State Farm Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, SoFi Stadium, Ohio Stadium, Notre Dame Stadium, Beaver Stadium, Snapdragon Stadium and Canvas Stadium. Can you bring a propane grill to every stadium?
No. Nissan Stadium in Nashville and Alabama allow charcoal only, Georgia allows propane only on disposable canisters of 17 oz or less, and Kent State bans propane tanks in its stadium lots. Most other stadiums allow propane.
