Can't miss
- "Enter Sandman" When the team comes out to Metallica, the whole stadium jumps, and it's the loudest minute in the ACC.
Quick answers
What time do the Lane Stadium lots open?
7 a.m. on Saturdays, whatever the kickoff, and cars have to be out by 7 a.m. Sunday. For games on other days, donor Lots 1 to 5 open after noon and everything else after 3 p.m.
Can you grill at Virginia Tech tailgates?
Yes. Propane and charcoal grills are allowed, outdoors and away from tents. Open flames and fire pits are not.
Can you drink at Virginia Tech tailgates?
The lot rules ban underage drinking and point to the university's Code of Conduct. Inside Lane, alcohol is sold to fans 21 and over, 2 drinks per ID per transaction, until the end of the third quarter.
Do you need a ticket to tailgate?
The rules ask for a parking pass, not a game ticket: every football-day lot takes a valid pass. Hokie Village, beside the stadium, opens 3.5 hours before kickoff.
How do you buy parking?
Donor lots take a Hokie Club pass mailed before the season, and none are sold on game day. Public single-game passes are sold ahead of time, and the Perry Street Garage and Data & Decision Science lots sell a few game-day spots by card. Every campus public lot is cashless.

Where the party is
Blacksburg opens the lots at 7 a.m. no matter when the game kicks, so a late game makes for a long Saturday. The rules keep it tidy: stay behind your line, keep the speaker home and the football in the truck.

Blacksburg Transit runs its game-day detours for at least an hour after the game. That tells you about the roads. Your ways out:
- Ride the bus back. The Campus Shuttle leaves from Cassell Coliseum for the Transit Center loops, and routes keep running until traffic clears.
- Rideshare from Washington St. Pickup is next to the Hahn Garden, a short walk from the stadium.
- Stay put. Saturday lots don't have to be empty until 7 a.m. Sunday. Fire the grill back up and let the roads clear.
