Tents pack Aggie Park, east of Kyle Field, on game days, with every kind of tailgater, food and game. KBTX found "a sea of maroon and white" there at the 2026 opener; a first-year Aggie who had been to soccer in England and NFL games called it "a whole new ballgame for me," and a class-of-1993 grad said the energy "that happens at every single game" has been "absolutely unbelievable." The night before, Midnight Yell's gates open at 10:45 p.m., and it lasts about a half hour.

The lot answer

Texas A&M's tailgate splits between Aggie Park east of Kyle Field and West Campus around Reed Arena, where open-access spots can be claimed from 9 a.m. the day before. General parking is prepaid on ParkMobile only, with limited pay-on-arrival lots near Bush Library, the Bonfire Memorial and Agronomy Rd, and game-day RV spaces sell through the RV Exchange.

Can't miss

  1. Midnight Yell The night before the game, tens of thousands of Aggies fill Kyle Field at midnight to practice the yells with the yell leaders. Go even if you can't get a game ticket.
  2. Standing all game The student section stands the whole game, the way E. King Gill came out of the stands in 1922 to suit up and stood ready on the sideline. That's the 12th Man.
  3. Swaying to the War Hymn When the band plays the Aggie War Hymn, the whole stadium locks arms and sways side to side. The upper deck moves.

Quick answers

What time does tailgating start at Kyle Field?

7 a.m. on game day, when parking opens too. West Campus open-access spaces can be claimed starting at 9 a.m. the day before. Every site has to be cleared and cleaned by midnight on game day.

Can you grill at Texas A&M tailgates?

Yes, if someone stays with the grill and it has a cover. In Aggie Park, grills must be propane or electric, with no coals, wood or trailer grills. Elsewhere, douse hot coals and use the coal dumpsters.

Can you drink at Texas A&M tailgates?

University rules allow alcohol at tailgates on game day, outdoors near the event, for anyone 21 and over. It's banned on the MSC Lawn, the All Faiths Chapel grounds and inside university buildings.

Do you need a ticket to tailgate?

The rules don't require one, but Aggie Park requires a reservation, free through the virtual land rush. Open-access sites around campus need no reservation.

How do you buy parking?

Prepay on ParkMobile, the only vendor A&M accepts for prepaid game-day parking. A few pay-on-arrival areas open near Bush Library, the Bonfire Memorial and Agronomy Rd. 12th Man lots are for donors with a lot permit.

Where the party is

Game day at A&M starts the night before, with Midnight Yell at Kyle Field. By morning it splits two ways: Aggie Park east of the stadium, and West Campus around Reed Arena. KBTX reported in 2025 that free tailgating in Aggie Park is at Freels Family Field 1 and 2, Central Grove and Throckmorton Lawn. Sports Illustrated's 2018 guide told visitors to look for the signs on tents that list the name and class year of every Aggie in the group, and said the tailgaters right up against Houston Street have been doing this for generations.

The main lawn

Aggie Park

Most of the park is free tailgating in 15 x 15 foot spaces, all by reservation through the land rush. Check in at the tent near the Pinky Wilson statue.

The early claim

West Campus

Open-access zones by the West Campus Garage open at 9 a.m. the day before. Land rush spots at Reed Arena run 25 x 25 feet.

The moment

The Spirit Walk

The team buses drop off at the north end of Houston St and the team walks it with the band, about 2 hours 15 minutes before kickoff. Line the route.

What to eat

The Fan Zone brings in local food trucks before the game. In 2018 the university's tailgating director told Sports Illustrated that beef is king here, that a smoked brisket can easily run 12 to 14 hours, and that stuffed jalapeños are an art form.

Getting out

Post-game closures start in the fourth quarter. Plan your exit before the last whistle:

  1. Ride the shuttle. Gameday shuttles run until 1 hour after the game. The Reed/Olsen route picks up on Joe Routt Blvd at the north end of Kyle Field.
  2. Rideshare from Lot 30e. Rideshare and taxis load there during and after the game.
  3. Drive the suggested way out. Headed west of FM 2818? Go south on Wellborn Rd and turn on Deacon Dr or Rock Prairie Rd. From the north side of campus, use Villa Maria Rd.
  4. Skip this

Sit in the campus traffic. Your site is yours until midnight, and Aggie Park cars can't get back in until campus roads reopen anyway. Head back to the tent.

First time here?

  • Want Aggie Park? Enter the land rush between Sunday 6 p.m. and Tuesday 5 p.m.
  • Grilling in Aggie Park means propane or electric. Leave the charcoal at home.
  • Midnight Yell is Friday at midnight at Kyle Field. Gates open at 10:45 p.m.
  • Download your ticket and parking to your phone before you leave.
  • Clear bag only, under the 12-1-1 rule. One sealed bottle of water can come in.

Visiting? How to join a tailgate

Open-access sites need no reservation, and the Fan Zone north of the stadium is open to everyone. Wear your colors, bring something to share and keep it friendly. The university's tailgating director told Sports Illustrated in 2018 that if you stop by a tailgate ready to talk football, you'll be treated like a long-lost friend. Not going in? KBTX reported in 2025 that the All-Aggie Hullabaloo at the Clayton W. Williams Jr. Alumni Center runs from 3.5 hours before kickoff to about 30 minutes after, with the game on inside.
