Quick answers
When does tailgating start at Auburn?
4 p.m. on the Friday before a home game. Saving grass spots with stakes, rope, tape, chairs, tents or vehicles before then isn't allowed, and early items can be removed.
Can you grill at Auburn tailgates?
Yes, at least 50 feet from campus buildings and never in the parking decks or other no-grill areas. Fires stay in grills, and charcoal gets put out with water and dropped in the designated containers or taken home.
Can you drink at Auburn tailgates?
Auburn's tailgating page doesn't set a lot alcohol rule. Outside alcohol can't be brought into or taken out of Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Do you need a ticket to tailgate at Auburn?
No ticket rule is posted for tailgating, and the Home Plate Tailgate at Plainsman Park is free and open to the public. Grass areas right next to reserved lots are for that lot's pass holders.
How do you buy parking?
Reserved and public for-sale lots are sold through Auburn Athletics at aub.ie/footballparking. Free lots for cars open at 8 a.m. Saturday at Research Park and the Facilities Lot. On-campus RV spots are reserved in advance through RevelXP.

Low-speed vehicles need a gameday pass like any car. Golf carts that aren't street legal and ATVs aren't allowed on campus.
Construction on the north end closes Heisman Drive on that side. Walk between the east and west sides on Thach Concourse.
No pass? Park at one of the Tiger Transit stops off campus and ride in. Every game-day bus drops off on War Eagle Way, just north of the Nichols Center.

The rules
Rules last verified Oct 29, 2026 against auburntigers.com, Sports Illustrated (Aug. 23, 2018), The Plainsman (Oct. 2022) and Auburn-Opelika Tourism (2025).
Auburn's rules are mostly about distance and timing. Here's what applies in the lots.
- Grills
- At least 50 feet from campus buildings, never in parking decks. Fires stay in the grill. Douse charcoal with water and use the coal bins.
- Generators
- At least 50 feet from campus buildings. Never near anything combustible, never in the wet.
- Tents
- A permit is needed over 399 square feet or with stakes 12 inches or longer. Joined tents need a 12-foot fire lane.
- Your space
- No trailers or wheeled vehicles in grass tailgate areas. No campus utilities. Grass next to a reserved lot is for its pass holders.
- Who's allowed
- No tailgating around residence halls. Amplified sound needs a permit requested 14 days ahead.
- Not allowed
- Saving grass spots before 4 p.m. Friday. Soliciting without written permission. Smoking: campus is smoke-free.
- When it ends
- RVs leave the Hayfields by 4 p.m. Sunday. Last Tiger Transit runs 2 hours after the game.
- Bags at the gate
- One clear bag up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches, or a 1-gallon freezer bag, plus a small clutch.

September games on the Plains run hot. Bring shade and water, and a layer for late-season night games. Any style of dress works at an Auburn tailgate, a longtime tailgater told Sports Illustrated in 2018, from orange-and-blue casual to dresses and blazers.
Where the party is
Auburn spreads the pregame across campus. Tailgates open Friday afternoon, and by Saturday the action runs down Donahue Drive, from the free tailgate at Plainsman Park to Tiger Walk Plaza.
The shady pick
Weagle Woods
Auburn's own map calls it a tailgate among the pine trees, a short walk from Jordan-Hare.
The no-pass option
Home Plate Tailgate
Free and open to the public in the Plainsman Park lot, with TVs, tailgate games, restrooms and shade tents. Food and beer are sold there.
The RV rows
The Hayfields
Reserved RV parking on South Donahue Drive, open Friday at 3 p.m. and cleared by 4 p.m. Sunday.
What to eat
Grills are allowed in most of the grass, so Auburn tailgates cook. Home Plate Tailgate and the new food trucks around Tiger Walk Plaza and Nichols Lawn cover anyone who doesn't.

Getting off the Plains takes a plan. Your options, best first:
- Take Tiger Transit back. Buses run to the off-campus stops for 2 hours after the game. Expect some delay in the postgame traffic.
- Follow the postgame traffic map. Auburn publishes one to move cars off campus faster. Load it before you leave.
- Let the lot empty first. If you're in the Hayfields, you have until 4 p.m. Sunday. No rush.
Skip this
Cut across the north end. Heisman Drive is closed there for construction. Use Thach Concourse instead.
First time here?
- Tailgating starts at 4 p.m. Friday. Don't stake out a spot before then.
- Keep the grill 50 feet from any campus building.
- No pass? Ride Tiger Transit from an off-campus stop.
- Line Donahue Drive for Tiger Walk, 2.5 hours before kickoff.
- The north side is a construction zone. Use Thach Concourse to cross.
- Clear bag only: 12 x 6 x 12 inches or a 1-gallon freezer bag, plus a small clutch.
