UTSA's tailgate has a home base: Lot B, southeast of the Alamodome, where the alumni crowd sets up, with Roadrunner Alley running between Lots B and C as the team's way in and a free party on the H-E-B Plaza. The lot scene is modest next to the city around it; in 2013 an alum called game day a little Fiesta, with charcoal and mesquite in the air. For the rest of the day, go downtown: the River Walk is a short walk west, the place to eat before kickoff or after the final whistle.

The lot answer

UTSA tailgates in Lots A, B and C around the Alamodome, by UTSA permit, with Roadrunner Alley running between B and C and the free party on the H-E-B Plaza. Without a permit, park in a downtown pay lot, a prepaid off-site lot the Alamodome lists, or VIA Park & Ride.

Quick answers

What time do the UTSA lots open at the Alamodome?

Lots A, B and C open 6.5 hours before kickoff for permit holders and close 1 hour after the game ends. UTSA asks fans not to pull in early: staff will send you out to come back once the lots open.

Can you grill at UTSA tailgates?

Yes. The Alamodome allows charcoal, wood and propane grills, at least 3 feet from cars, crowds and anything that burns. Deep fryers, oil cooking, ground fires and fire pits are banned, and every cooking group needs a fire extinguisher.

Can you drink at UTSA tailgates?

Fans 21 and over can drink in the tailgate lots under Texas TABC rules. No glass containers, and no outside food or drink goes into the Alamodome.

Do you need a ticket to tailgate at UTSA?

You need a permit. The Alamodome counts any item set on the ground as tailgating, and every space you use needs a UTSA-sold permit. Lot passes go to Roadrunner Athletic Fund donors who also hold season tickets.

How do you buy parking at UTSA?

Lot A, B and C passes are sold through the Roadrunner Athletic Fund to donors with season tickets. Everyone else uses paid public lots downtown, prepaid off-site parking listed by the Alamodome, or VIA Park & Ride. The Alamodome is cashless.

Where the party is

UTSA tailgates downtown, in the lots that wrap the Alamodome between I-37 and the rail line. Charcoal and wood are fair game in Lots B and C, the team walks through Roadrunner Alley between them, and the free party runs on the H-E-B Plaza.

The walk

Roadrunner Alley

The stretch between Lots B and C where the Spirit Walk starts, about 2 hours 45 minutes before kickoff, with the band, spirit teams and the team heading into the dome.

The free party

Rowdy Town Live

A free pregame party on the H-E-B Plaza and VIA Bridge north of the dome, with a DJ and carnival-style games. For the Navy game it opened 3 hours before kickoff.

The alumni stop

Forever Rowdy Tailgate

The UTSA Alumni Association tailgate at the H-E-B Plaza. Members bring 1 guest, kids under 12 are free, and you need your alumni ID.

What to eat

Charcoal, wood and propane are all allowed, so cook the way you like, just not in a fryer.

Getting out

Downtown traffic, I-37 and one dome all empty at once. Your options, best first:

  1. Ride VIA Park & Ride. Buses take you back to the Crossroads and Brooks Park & Ride lots, and you skip downtown traffic.
  2. Hang in the lot. Permit lots stay open 1 hour after the game, so pack up slowly and let the roads clear.
  3. Walk to Lot D for rideshare. That's the official pick-up spot, on Tower of the Americas Way.
  4. Skip this

Race for Cherry St at the gun. You and every other permit holder in Lots B and C.

First time here?

  • Permit lots open 6.5 hours before kickoff. Don't pull in early.
  • Every space you use needs its own permit.
  • Charcoal, wood or propane. No fryers.
  • Weights for the tent, not stakes.
  • No glass, and 21 and over to drink.
  • Clear bag only. Doors open 90 minutes before kickoff.

Visiting? How to join a tailgate

Rowdy Town Live on the H-E-B Plaza is free, so it's an easy first stop. Then walk the lots with something to share and say hello before you step into a setup.
