Kansas tailgates on a hill. Campanile Hill rises south of the stadium, and from three hours before kickoff the free fan tailgate fills its base, a come-and-go setup that in 2025 had music, local food trucks and picnic tables, while 11th Street closes to cars from Maine to Illinois. At the 2025 opener in the renovated stadium, a lifelong Jayhawk told KSHB about sitting on that hill as a kid, and said it was fun to be on the same hill on game day, in a new place. Then head in: before kickoff the Rock Chalk Chant rolls through the stadium, slow and almost eerie.

The lot answer

Kansas tailgates in designated lots and on parts of Campanile Hill. Without a Williams Fund permit, the pay lots are Lot 11, Lot 72 and the Allen Fieldhouse Garage, card only, and Lot 90 near Capital Federal Hall is the economy option, with a shuttle and the only RV parking.

Can't miss

  1. The Rock Chalk Chant Slow and almost eerie, it rolls through the stadium before kickoff and again when a win is sealed.
  2. Waving the Wheat After a KU score, the crowd waves its arms side to side like wheat in the wind.

Quick answers

What time do the Kansas lots open?

Football parking in all lots opens 6 hours before kickoff. Show up before that and your pass won't scan, and you can be ticketed or towed. For Friday games while classes are in session, KU has opened lots at 2 p.m. instead.

Can you grill at Kansas tailgates?

Yes, outside the garages. KU allows no flames or grills in the Mississippi Street Garage or the Allen Fieldhouse Garage, and grills can be used on the grass outside them. Put the fire out safely before you head in.

Can you drink at Kansas tailgates?

Only during the 3 hours before kickoff and at halftime, in designated tailgating areas. Drinking ends 30 minutes after kickoff and 15 minutes after the second-half kickoff. No kegs or containers over 1 gallon, and food and nonalcoholic drinks have to be out wherever alcohol is.

Do you need a ticket to tailgate at Kansas?

Not for Gameday on the Hill, which is free and open to everyone. In the lots you tailgate at your own parking space, and people on foot can bring a picnic into the designated tailgating areas.

How do you buy parking at Kansas?

The lots around the stadium are Williams Fund permits. Everyone else can buy a space on site in Lot 11, Lot 72 or the Allen Fieldhouse Garage, credit card only and first come, or use economy Lot 90 with a shuttle.

Getting out

Lawrence flips its streets to one way after the game. Your options, best first:

  1. Ride the game shuttle back. Shuttles run until an hour after the game, back to the Allen Fieldhouse Garage and Lot 90.
  2. Follow the one-way routes. Several streets around the stadium run one way out after the game. Check the official map before you park.
  3. Rideshare from Indiana Street. Meet your driver at 11th and Indiana, in front of the HERE apartments.
  4. Skip this

Drive back toward 11th Street against the flow. The postgame routes won't let you. Go the way the officers point.
