San Diego State's Orange Lot, east of the stadium, is the one fans call the biggest, with the most tailgating action, on gravel. An alum-writer called the 2022 opener the largest Aztecs tailgate scene they'd seen. Stadium Journey rates the usual scene only decent in a stadium that's by no means full; without a pass, the River Park Block Party south of the Yellow Lot is the front door, with food trucks, music, a beverage garden and room for kids. The Trolley from a park-and-ride lot skips the parking entirely. Inside, the Aztecs answer every score with fireworks, the team takes the field through flames and smoke, and the student section, The Show, parties behind an end zone.

The lot answer

Five lots surround Snapdragon Stadium, and Aztec fans tailgate in all of them: Green, Purple, Orange, Yellow and Thrive Park, with season ticket members getting priority. Check the gate on your pass, because each lot has its own entry, and staff park friends together only if they arrive together. Overflow parking is at the Mission City Corporate Center garage, Friars Rd at Northside Dr.

Quick answers

What time do the Snapdragon Stadium lots open for SDSU games?

SDSU says the Snapdragon Stadium parking lots open 5 hours before kickoff, and the stadium gates open 2 hours before kickoff.

Can you grill at SDSU tailgates?

Yes, with natural gas or propane grills only. Charcoal grills, wood stoves, oil fryers, open pit fires and other cooking stations aren't allowed.

Can you drink at SDSU tailgates?

SDSU's rules allow it in the lots with limits: all drinking must stop 30 minutes after the scheduled start, drinks go in cans or plastic, no kegs, and you can't drive out of the lot with alcohol.

Do you need a ticket to tailgate at SDSU?

SDSU doesn't post a ticket rule for the lots, but you need a valid parking pass for that lot, and season ticket members get priority. Everyone needs a ticket to get into the stadium.

How do you buy parking at SDSU games?

Single-game and season passes are sold online in advance through SDSU's ticketing, and SDSU expects on-site parking to sell out before game day. Enter at the gate shown for your lot on the arrival map, or staff will turn you around.

No pass? Ride the Trolley Green Line to Stadium Station, a short walk from the stadium. MTS Park and Ride lots along the line are free.

Where the party is

Snapdragon is a newer stadium in the middle of Mission Valley, ringed by its own lots, with the Trolley stopping at the south end. The tailgate is car by car, right behind your bumper, and tents only go up in certain lots.

The big lot

Orange Lot

The largest lot, east of the stadium, and one of the lots where pop-up tents are allowed. Enter at Gate 1, 2 or 3.

The tent lots

Thrive Park and Green lots

Pop-up tents are allowed here too, plus Warrior Walk and the reserved areas of the Yellow Lot. Green is the main accessible lot.

The no-car route

Trolley Plaza

Where Stadium Station on the Green Line meets the south side of the stadium.

What to eat

Gas grills only, and food is for your own crew, since sales are banned. The stadium is cashless if you'd rather buy inside.

Getting out

Mission Valley funnels everyone toward the same freeways. Your options, best first:

  1. Take the Trolley. The Green Line leaves from Stadium Station on the south side, no lot traffic at all.
  2. Use the accessible shuttle. It links the Trolley station, the lots and the stadium gates.
  3. Meet your rideshare in the Purple Lot. Pick-up is the northeast corner, not the curb on Friars Rd.
  4. Skip this

Race the lot to the freeway. You and a full stadium, all aiming for the same on-ramp.

First time here?

  • Lots open 5 hours before kickoff.
  • Tailgate right behind your car. One space each.
  • Propane or natural gas grill only.
  • No glass, no kegs, and drinking stops 30 minutes after the start.
  • Enter at the gate for your lot.
  • Clear bag only. The stadium is cashless.

Visiting? How to join a tailgate

Space is tight at Snapdragon, so the friendliest move is to bring something to share and say hello rather than set up next to a crew.
