What it is

This is the grill set that gets picked up and passed around the tailgate, because the handles are shaped like baseball bats. It's a gift for the guy who already owns every grill tool, and the one set in the lot people ask about.

Stainless heads are riveted to wooden bat handles, a design Baseball BBQ says is patented. The spatula has a bottle opener built in, so one tool does two jobs at the grill. The tongs lock shut, so they don't spring open in the bag on the drive. The other four are a fork, a pigtail flipper, a grill brush and a separate opener. The wood needs hand washing and a rub of mineral oil now and then, so it's not a toss-in-the-dishwasher set.

6-tool or the Home Run 4-tool? The Home Run 4-tool is the same spatula, tongs and fork for $40 less, and the smarter buy. Get the 6-tool as the gift, or if you'll really use the pigtail and the brush.

Why we picked it

The whole grill lineup on wooden bat handles.

Every tool is stainless steel riveted to a wooden handle turned like a baseball bat. Baseball BBQ says the bat-handle design is patented, and it laser-engraves its logo on each tool.

Six tools cover the whole cook: the Slider spatula, Forkball fork, Splitfinger tongs, The Hook pigtail, the Brushback grill brush and the Pickoff bottle opener.

The Slider spatula has a serrated edge, a tenderizer and its own bottle opener, so there are two openers in the set. Hand wash them and oil the handles.

How it works in the lot

Brush it. Flip it. Crack one.

  1. Brush the grates.

The Brushback cleans the grill before the first burgers go on.

  2. Flip, turn and grab.

The Slider for burgers, the Splitfinger tongs for brats, The Hook for steaks.

  3. Crack one with the Pickoff.

The bat-handled opener handles the cooler while the grill works.
