What it is
The far lot is where a hard cooler stops being worth carrying. The Outpost is the one rotomolded hard cooler on this site built to be pulled instead, on wheels and a telescoping handle.
Cordova rates it at 63 cans, two and a half cases, so a far-lot crew of eight drinks off one cooler and nobody walks back. It weighs 35.5 pounds empty, the same as the 65 you'd have to lift, and full of cans and ice it's around 85 to 90 pounds by our math, so the wheels do the work. Cordova doesn't say what ground the wheels are built for: on pavement it rolls easily, and on grass or gravel expect to pull harder. It stands taller than it is long, about 19 × 18 × 21 inches, so it parks in a tight spot, and two latches hold the lid down while it rolls. Cordova backs its hard coolers with a 5-year warranty when you register within 30 days.
Outpost, or something else? If you walk in from a far lot, the Outpost. A crew of six to eight, parked close: the Cordova 45, which one person can carry. The biggest crew, parked close: the Cordova 65. Against a Taiga 55 plus the wheel kit ($398 together), the Outpost has its wheels built in for about $20 less. The Taiga route wins if you want the bigger box, or want to take the wheels off for short walks.
In five colors.
