What it is

The 45 is the hard cooler one person can still carry from close parking to the spot. It's the smallest of the three Cordovas here, about 25 pounds empty, 10 pounds less than the 65.

Run a strap through the 1.75-inch channel across the lid and it's still where you put it after the drive in. At the spot, it's the extra seat nobody brought: Cordova doesn't publish a lid rating, but owners' reviews say they sit on theirs. It's rotomolded, and Cordova backs it with a 5-year warranty when you register within 30 days.

45, 50 or 65? Get the 45 when you park close and one person does the carrying. Long walk: the Cordova 50 Outpost, which rolls. The biggest crew: the Cordova 65.

Cordova rates it at 56 cans. It's about 25 pounds empty, roughly 10 pounds lighter than the 65 qt and 3 inches shorter end to end.

The body is rotomolded, and Cordova calls the handles easy to carry. A 1.75-inch channel across the lid takes a strap for a truck bed, a rack or a trailer.

Cordova rates this one at 56 cans, using the usual two parts ice to one part cans. Inside it's 19.5 by 11.8 by 11.9 inches.

How much does it weigh?

About 25 pounds empty, per Cordova's spec sheet. One spot on Cordova's page says 26.5, so plan on 25 to 26.5.

45 qt or 65 qt?

Take the 45 for a small crew and an easier carry. Take the 65 for the whole group: 65 cans plus ice, and about 10 pounds more empty.
