An electric wagon is worth it when your tailgate is a long walk from where you park: it pulls the cooler, the grill and the chairs in one trip, at walking pace, over grass and gravel. If you park in your own space and set up behind the car, you probably don't need one. If you park in a neighborhood lot, a garage or a far field, it saves you three trips. When a wagon earns its keep
- You park in the neighborhood, not the lot. At Lambeau, the lots around the stadium are sold to season pass holders, and everyone else parks in the neighborhood.
- The tailgate isn't where the car is. There are no cars in the Grove at Ole Miss. It's a field of tents, so everything gets carried in. At Florida, tents can't go in a parking space, so setups move onto the lawns around campus.
- Your space is tight. Where the car and the tailgate share one space, like the 8.5 x 15 feet at Ohio State, a wagon with a tabletop does double duty as your serving table.
What stadiums allow
None of the stadium rules in our guides lists a ban on wagons in the lots, but a few rules matter:
- The wagon stays outside. Under clear-bag rules, wagons don't go through the gates. Lambeau says so outright. Plan to leave it at the car.
- Motorized rules vary. Notre Dame bans "custom motorized vehicles" in its lots, so check before you bring an electric wagon there. Reliant Stadium and Penn State ban motorized coolers specifically.
- Golf carts are a different thing. Several stadiums ban golf carts in the lots, including Notre Dame, Penn State and Reliant Stadium. Rules are set lot by lot, so check your stadium's guide before you bring anything with a motor.
